If a photovoltaic power generator does not have a high voltage reactive power compensation capacitor cabinet and consequently an average fine of 20,000 each month has been resulted because of the reactive power, what measures should the customer take?
On the site of Taizhou Star Refrigeration Equipment Plant in Zhejiang Province, there is one 10kV power supply line and, on the the 10kV side, there are 7 transformers which are not equipped with a high voltage reactive power compensation capacitor cabinet. The total capacity of these 7 transformers is 6106kVA; and each transformer is equipped with a low voltage reactive power compensation capacitor cabinet.
The factory put into operation one 5W PV power generation project two years ago. Since the photovoltaic power generation project was connected to the grid, the electricity fee of the factory has always contained a fine which is more than 20,000 yuan every month in the peak period of power generation, which has been charged, and the customer is quite distressed!
Measurement of the data and an analysis:
1: The technical personnel coming from Anhui DELITER Electric Power Science & Technology Co., Ltd went to the site and carried out data measurement and they have have found out the following:
2: When the plant equipment was in operation for 24 hours and the photovoltaic power generation system was performing normal power generation, the power factor of the system was relatively lower and changed between 0.3 and 0.8.
3: The power factor of the system could be as high as 0.9 when the photovoltaic power generation system was cut off.
4: When the generated power generation was greater than the power which had been consumed by the load, certain amount of active power was transmitted into the power grid; and when the amount of power which was generated was less than the power which had been consumed by the load, a small amount of active power was required to be taken off from the grid side.
5: There were losses in the reactive power when each of the 7 transformers on the site was in normal operation.
6: The photovoltaic power generation on the site kept changing in real time depending on the weather conditions, so the active power which was required to be obtained by the factory from the market also kept changing.
When the amount of generated by the PV power generation system was greater than the power load in the project, the active power which had been generated by the photovoltaic power generation system would be sent back to the utility power system. At this time, the power factor of the system was also very low.
The reactive power compensation capacitor cabinet solution:
The data analysis was carried out on the site by Anhui DELITER Electric Power Science and Technology Co., Ltd. It was concluded that a additional special 10kV reactive power compensation capacitor cabinet was to be arranged on the side of the photovoltaic power station, with a compensation capacity of 4000kvar, and the automatically grouped switching method would be adopted. The aim was to finally ensure that the power factor on the incoming cabinet side of the 10kV power network would reach 0.95 and that the monthly average value would be up to 0.95.
One outlet cabinet for the 10kV reactive power compensation capacitor cabinet was required to be provided on the site. It was required to perform sampling of the electric current of the general incoming line. Therefore, a general incoming line cabinet and a PT cabinet needed to be installed on the site.
